The pet play lifestyle is full of so many voices that make it unique and vibrant. To showcase this, every month we will be shining the spotlight on a particular human animal or Handler in our community. Let's hear what makes every pet player special!

This month, we are honored to feature a beacon in the animal role play and leather community. Matriarch of House Elite and Animal Play Monarch with over 50 unique and glorious beasts at her command, she is truly an inspiration when it comes to training and transforming human animals. We can't wait to share her wisdom and experience with you...

MADAME MARGHERITE!

Please introduce yourself and how you identify in pet play/animal role play.

I'm Madame Margherite, the Animal Play Monarch.

How did you first get into pet play?

This has really been something I've done all My life. Turning people into Animals has been something I've always done, if not in real life than in My head. Sometimes when I'm having a difficult time being accepting or tolerant of a person, I'll envision them as an Animal and that makes it easier for Me to have compassion and understanding.

How would you describe your Handler/training style?

I think My handling style is firm but nurturing. I really like to tap into the mind and imagination and bring it out as much as possible, but that takes care and effort which I take seriously and aim to provide at all times.

What do you value in a pet?

Creativity and flexibility. I like a Pet who can step out of all the boxes and go with the flow of the scene. Someone who isn't too married to their ideas and eager to explore whatever feels good in the moment, so long as it's safe.

What inspired you to help people explore different animals than "the norm" of pups and kittens? How would you advise an aspiring pet to start exploring their identity?

There's so much more to us than what's on the surface and people find it difficult to really show themselves. It's easy to identify as something that you see others accepting, but what if something is hiding? What if people have parts of themselves that they're just too shy to show? If I create a space where exotic Animal identities are welcome, that opens up the possibilities for people to explore more parts of themselves, and not just the parts they feel are already accepted by outsiders. There are so many kinds of Animals, as many as there are personalities - I encourage people to step outside of the norm because we don't get to do that often enough.

What advice do you have for new Handlers?

Protect your Pets. When people get into Pet space, they can get really deep, so as Dominants and handlers it's really our responsibility to keep them safe. Not just safe from harm, but also keeping them safe in their headspace. Doing things to make sure their headspace isn't compromised will really make a difference in the experience and dynamic. Protect your pets, protect the space, and protect the scene. That's the best advice I can give to a fellow handler.

What do you love most about pet play?

The freedom from social standards and etiquette. When we stop focusing on how people should be and focus on accepting how people are we learn a lot and find incredible beauty. We discover new ways to be and find more things to appreciate about each other. I personally think that's incredible.

This month, we loved getting to know a wonderful pet player in our local Los Angeles community who identifies as an alley cat, cow, pup, and bunny - wow! We know you'll have a great time learning about them, too. Introducing...

MINTY!

Please introduce yourself and how you identify in pet play.

Hey there, my name is Minty the Kitty (she/they). I also identify as a wild alley cat, cow, pup, and bunny.

How did you discover your pet play identity?

I discovered my pet play identity while being in the kink community for a few years. I took a long break but eventually dived back and got interested in going into an age play kink space. I like to think of myself as a middle/teen because I still love all the cute fun things in life. I had this friend who always wore ears and tails, she looked very cute and I got really curious. So I dived in and got my first set of cat ears and tail in mint from PrittenPaws. After my first set, I ended up with 20+ ears! I've been addicted to pet play and finding out my identity ever since. I explored more into the kink and noticed I really loved getting head pats. Since then, I've been loving to learn more about my pet play identity.

What are your favorite activities as a pet?

Some of my favorite activities as a pet is just lounging around on the couch or bed getting head pats and kneading whatever I can in site. I love afternoon naps and just looking for more attention where I can get it.

What are your favorite treats and toys?

My favorite treats are tuna salad on crackers and my favorite toys are the feathery things that I can try to catch along with a red laser that I can follow around.

What goals in pet play do you have for the coming years?

In the coming years, I’m hoping that I can find myself a handler/owner that’ll train me to do tricks in possibly a circus role-play or become someone's emotional support pet. I want to be there for someone to help them when they’re in need. I love that we have such a big community here in SoCal.

What do you love most about pet play?

It’s been great getting to meet and make new friends with other pets. I love how welcoming everyone is and how much support there is in the community that it is okay to be what we want. I love learning about new things that could possibly happen in the future. I’m so glad I met this community because if it weren’t for this community, I don’t know what I’d know now of my pet play identity.

This month, we're finally featuring one of the Co-Founders of our wonderful little community. She's a kitten, Alpha Cat, and Handler, and helps make SoCal Creatures thrive and grow every day. We would never be where we are without her. Introducing...

VIXEN!

Please introduce yourself and how you identify in pet play.

My name is Vixen, and I am the Co-Founder of SoCal Creatures. I’ve been in the BDSM community for 10 years now. I am BIPOC and neurodiverse, which has made my learning in the community and myself an interesting journey.

I identify as two different creatures.

The first is my kitten side:

Think of what Cheshire from Alice in Wonderland looks like. Just all purple (deep purple and lavender). Then mix in Pixie from the comic Pet Foolery for size and you’ll have my kitten side! She’s very curious of the world around her. Loves to play with the hoomans but hasn’t had much exposure to other pets. Has a huge striped tail.

Some key words are: cute, cuddly, curious, playful, giggles

Next is my Alpha Cat side:

About the side of a medium-large dog size black in color, huge black years. She comes out when there’s other pets either to torment them or to watch over them (telling the hoomans others need water, attention etc) power and fierceness come off in waves.

How did you first get into pet play and discover how you identify in it?

I’ve always been into cats. I climb trees and perch on things that I can. To the point where my vanilla family sends me cat shirts, masks, and things like that.

I met a puppy when I first entered the scene. He showed me pet play and that it could actually be a thing. That I could be a cat and people wouldn’t judge me about it.

How are your kitten and Alpha Cat headspaces different?

One is cute and cuddly and the other is wanting to protect and hurt others.

What do you look for in pets as a Handler?

I look for pets who are wanting to grow and explore themselves. But they are confident that they are a pet. I enjoy being the one who is the tour guide on their journey.

How, if at all, do your intersections of identity influence your pet play?

My Alpha cat loves to hurt others. Using people or other pets as a scratching post is great.

For my kitten side, not much really.

For my handler side, I enjoy doing other types of play with pets. Dark pet play is so hot, rope, hypno, milking... so many things.

How do you hope to see the pet play and SoCal Creatures community grow in the future?

I hope to see the pet play community grow in their confidence and be happy.

What do you love most about pet play?

For both the pet side and the handler side, the bonding and growing of both myself and the people I interact with. Being able to grow and accept oneself is so hard and pushing myself to do so has been the best thing. Also the scariest part.
